Video availability
Video availability checks help you find broken movie videos and explain playback restrictions to visitors.
The system checks the video linked to a movie and keeps the last confirmed result. This helps administrators repair broken videos and lets the theme explain playback limits to visitors.
What a status means
| Status | Visitor behavior |
|---|---|
| Available | Play uses the normal movie video behavior. |
| Unavailable | The theme can hide Play when the separate Movies → Display option is enabled. |
| Age-restricted on YouTube | Play opens the YouTube watch page in a new tab because an embedded player may not work. |
| Regional restriction | The message lists blocked countries or an allowed-only list when YouTube provides one. Server-side country checks can control Play when geolocation is available. |
| Unknown / temporary error | A failed check does not newly hide Play; the last confirmed result remains available for review. |
Provider limit: Vimeo’s public oEmbed check can help with basic availability, but it does not provide a reliable country restriction list. Do not interpret an unknown Vimeo region as worldwide availability.
Check videos in WordPress
- Open MK Studio → Video → Check Video.
- Use Check now for one row, Check unchecked videos for new entries, or Recheck all videos to refresh the library. Batch checks run in small groups and show progress.
- Review the movie, exact video link, source field, status and region column before changing a post.
The current table covers dedicated Movie Options and MovieKit trailer/teaser fields. It does not scan every embed in a review, ordinary post content or Media Grabber output. A movie can appear in several rows if it has several distinct videos.
Control the public message
In MK Studio → Movies → Display, choose whether visitors see the video status and whether confirmed unavailable videos hide Play. The two switches are independent and apply across the movie layouts. YouTube availability checks require a usable YouTube API key in the MK ecosystem.
