MK Theme
MK Theme – Your website, your vision.
MK Theme is a WordPress theme designed primarily for movie websites, while also supporting traditional pages, blogs and articles. You can use it to build movie catalogs, review websites, film presentations and websites combining movie and video content.
The theme provides the public-facing design and presentation of your website. Movie page layouts include Classic Hero, Poster Review and Video First, offering different ways to present the same movie record. Ordinary WordPress pages and posts also remain part of the site.
How the FramePress products work together
- MK Theme renders your site’s pages, posts, movie archives and individual movie pages. It provides the visual foundation.
- MK Studio is the companion plugin for visual controls such as site style, typography, branding, header, footer and page layout. Its supported settings let you customize appearance without writing code. It also provides shortcode generators and native Elementor Free widgets; these are separate ways to build page sections.
- MovieKit manages movie records, fields and collections. MK Theme integrates with those records to present movie content, while MovieKit also provides its own configurable display profiles. MovieKit is a plugin, not the theme.
- YT Sheet Grid is an optional plugin for video collections and grids. It uses configured sources, including Google Sheets, and display profiles to show video collections on your pages. It is separate from MovieKit and is not required for ordinary pages and posts.
AI helps. You decide.
MK Theme and MK Studio are designed to make building and customizing your website simple, with clear controls for layout, appearance and content presentation.
FramePress AI Support complements the product documentation by helping users understand features, locate settings and follow configuration instructions.
It is a separate support service on framepress.org, not a feature installed with MK Theme or on customers’ websites. Its role is to explain and guide, not to make changes to your site.
You remain in control of every decision.

Optional API services
MK Theme’s basic design and manually entered content work without API keys. Optional services belong to different parts of your FramePress setup; you do not need to configure every service.
- Movie data: MovieKit can use TMDb and OMDb for supported movie details, artwork and ratings. Configure these in MovieKit → Settings, or use MovieKit’s guided setup. Manual movie entry works without keys. See MovieKit Settings and API keys.
- AI drafting: direct provider credentials are configured through WordPress Settings → Connectors when the matching provider connection is available. Choose provider/model defaults and allow calls in MK Studio → AI Tools → Providers & Defaults. MK Studio’s optional built-in OpenRouter text adapter has its own section there. See API keys and AI setup. A saved key alone does not authorize calls or guarantee credit, quota or model access.
- YouTube availability checks: configure the YouTube Data API key in MK Studio → Integrations for MK Theme’s Check Video feature. YT Sheet Grid is not required for that theme check. Ordinary supported YouTube embeds can work without an API key. See MK Studio Integrations.
- Vimeo: the optional token is used for YT Sheet Grid’s Vimeo API sources. MK Theme’s basic Vimeo check uses public oEmbed without that token. See Vimeo integration.
Take care when replacing saved keys: MovieKit Settings → Save Settings can clear a key when its field is blank, while the MovieKit guided setup preserves an existing key when its input is blank. These are different screens. Keep keys out of screenshots, support messages and public content.
FramePress AI Support on framepress.org is a separate support service. Using that service does not install an AI assistant or configure provider credentials on your own website.

Movie page layouts
Choose from Classic Hero, Poster Review and Video First. These layouts use the same underlying movie record, so changing the layout does not require re-entering the movie data.
| Layout | Focus |
|---|---|
| Classic Hero | A prominent hero area with movie details and the Watch action. |
| Poster Review | Poster-led presentation with more room for the written review. |
| Video First | A video-led opening for sites that put playback at the center. |
Design and site controls
Use MK Studio for site style, typography, homepage sections, branding, header, footer, movie display, ads and performance options. The theme includes sensible defaults when a setting has not been changed.
Ads and performance
Optional global ad positions include After header and Before footer. After header starts disabled. Other positions are available for post and movie content. Performance controls are conservative and optional; check the result after changing a loading option.
Visitor video status
Movie pages can show availability information, hide Play for a confirmed unavailable video and send age-restricted YouTube videos to YouTube in a new tab. These controls apply to all three movie layouts. See Video availability for the exact rules.
