MK SYSTEM / DOCUMENTATION
Add a movie video
Add a movie video by choosing a source, configuring playback and checking the result on the public page.
Add a video source to a MovieKit movie, then check the rendered page. Playback and availability checks are different tasks: a saved URL alone does not prove that a provider will play it for every visitor.
MK Movie Options: field reference
Location: edit a MovieKit movie → MK Movie Options. These selections affect this movie. Select Inherit global to follow the corresponding default in MK Studio → Movies → Settings; the label in parentheses shows that default. Update the movie after changing a field.

| Field | What to enter or choose | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Movie Template | Inherit global, Classic Hero, Poster Review or Video First. | Chooses the movie page presentation. Classic Hero emphasizes the backdrop and film facts; Poster Review emphasizes the poster and review; Video First opens with the video area. See Movie templates. |
| Movie Layout | Inherit global, Full width, Boxed, Sidebar right or Sidebar left. | Controls the page container and sidebar position, independently of Movie Template. Full width uses the available page width; Boxed constrains the content; the sidebar layouts place the configured sidebar beside the main content. A sidebar needs widgets/content to be useful. |
| Watch / Video URL | A supported video URL, generated Iframely iframe URL, or an external destination. Paste a URL, not HTML. | Recognized video URLs become embedded players. Other URLs open externally. When both dedicated source fields are empty, MK Theme falls back to MovieKit trailer fields. See Supported video sources and Iframely. |
| Embed Code | A provider-generated <iframe src="…"></iframe>. | Uses an existing embedded player. The field keeps allowed iframe markup and attributes; scripts, wrapper elements and unsupported attributes are removed when saved. A script-only embed will not work here. Use the provider’s actual iframe with a populated src. |
| Video Mode | Inherit global, Modal / lightbox, Inline embed or External link (new tab). | Modal opens an overlay player; Inline plays in the page; External opens the resolved destination in a new tab. This setting cannot make a provider allow embedding. An unrecognized URL is treated as external even if Inline or Modal is selected. |
Watch Button Label, below these fields, changes this movie’s watch action text. Leave it empty to follow the global label.
How the video source is selected
The global Watch source priority determines which dedicated field wins when both are filled:
- Embed first: Embed Code → Watch / Video URL → MovieKit trailer.
- URL first: Watch / Video URL → Embed Code → MovieKit trailer.
The MovieKit fallback checks the trailer embed value, then the trailer YouTube ID, then the trailer watch URL. This is a source-selection order, not an automatic retry after a playback failure: a populated but unusable higher-priority source may prevent a working fallback from being selected. For a first test, fill only one dedicated source field.
Add a video URL
- Edit a published movie and find MK Movie Options.
- Enter a supported YouTube or Vimeo URL in Watch / Video URL, then update the movie. If you use a MovieKit trailer field instead, follow its separate field settings.
- Open the public movie page. Check that the theme renders the intended video action or player for the selected movie template.
MK Theme prefers a dedicated Watch / Video URL over a MovieKit trailer value when both are available. Keep one intended source for this first test so the result is unambiguous.
For Dailymotion, OK.ru, VK, iframe players and Iframely, follow the examples in Supported video sources and Iframely.
Check availability
- Open MK Studio → Video → Check Video. This table lists dedicated Movie Options and MovieKit trailer/teaser fields.
- Run a check for the saved YouTube or Vimeo video and review its result. Opening the table alone does not contact the video provider; it shows the last saved result.
- Return to the movie page. An unavailable, age-limited or region-limited video can change the message or action shown to visitors. See Video availability for the current behavior.
Check Video does not scan every URL in review text, general post content or Media Grabber. Provider results can change over time, so recheck important videos when needed.
